Timing for healthy burger

Who said you can't have burgers if you are a vegetarian. Well, I would like to share this wonderful healthy vegetarian burger receipe that you can't resist. Bon Appétit!

 Almond-Rice Burgers

Adapted from One-Dish Vegetarian Meals,
by Robin Robertson (The Harvard Common Press, 2007).

Almonds are being known as the supernut that helps people who have "metabolic syndrome" resulting in insulin sensitivity. Supernut or not, they are also delicious. Whoever thought up Almond-Rice Burgers with comfort-food rice and pintos, had a brainstorm. These are quick and flavorful.

SIMPLE SOLUTION: Short-grain brown rice holds together well and adds a nutty flavor that complements the almonds in these tasty burgers. Serve on their own with a sauce or chutney, or on burger rolls with all the trimmings.
INGREDIENTS

1 cup cooked short-grain brown rice
1 ½ cups cooked or canned pinto beans, rinsed and drained if canned
1 cup dry bread crumbs
½ cup coarsely ground almonds
¼ cup grated onion
¼ cup grated carrots
½ teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

1. In a large bowl, combine the rice, beans, bread crumbs, almonds, onion, carrots, paprika, salt, and cayenne and stir until well blended. Or combine the ingredients in a food processor and process until blended. Shape the mixture into four ½-inch-thick patties.

2. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for about 5 minutes per side, until golden brown. Serve immediately.

Serves 4.

All about packing

I love to travel but packing a suitcase is really a chore for me. I want to bring everything and fit them in that small box. Well, I found a very helpful packing tips in the video below.

Life is helping others

We all know about Haiti's terrible fate. Millions of people are affected and hundred of thousands dead. My heart goes out to the people of Haiti and hope they will recover from this ordeal.

The Singapore Red Cross is raising funds for the survivors of the earthquake. Donations via cheque can be sent to the Singapore Red Cross at 15 Penang Lane, Singapore 238486. Please include name, contact details and "Earthquake Haiti" at the back of the cheque. Walk-in donors may make their cash/cheque donations at the Singapore Red Cross at 15 Penang Lane (near Dhoby Gaut MRT Station) during its office hours, Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 9pm and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

Timing to good friends

I'm dedicating this to all my friends who were lost and ... found and also to those I'm still searching.
Thank you very much for being my friend.

Picture taken by me at the Bird Park

A friend is like a flower,
a rose to be exact,
Or maybe like a brand new gate
that never comes unlatched.
A friend is like an owl,
both beautiful and wise.
Or perhaps a friend is like a ghost,
whose spirit never dies.
A friend is like a heart that goes
strong until the end.
Where would we be in this world
if we didn't have a friend.

Life is my hometown

Take a look at Singapore in 1938 and 1957.
Even though I wasn't born yet, it is facinating to see the old Singapore and how she changes what she is today.

Email to wife (wrong recipient)

A man checked into a hotel. There was a computer in his room, so he decided to send an e-mail to his wife. However, he accidentally typed wrong e-mail address, and without realizing his error, he sent the e-mail.

Meanwhile… somewhere, a widow had just returned home from her husband’s funeral. The widow decided to check her e-mail, expecting messages from relatives and friends. After reading the first message, she fainted. The widow’s son rushed into the room, found his mother on the floor, and saw the computer screen which read:

To: My Loving Wife
Subject: I’ve Reached Safely
Date: 21 st July, 2004

I know you’re surprised to hear from me. They have computers here now, and we are allowed to send e-mails to our loved ones. I’ve just reached safely and have been checked in. I see that everything has been prepared for your arrival tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing you then! Hope your journey is as uneventful as mine was …

All about Riverkids

As the year 2010 is here, we should begin the new year by helping others. The Riverkids Project is a charitable trust in Singapore which fights child trafficking in Cambodia.  In Cambodia, children are sold as debt slaves, domestic drudges, illegal adoptions, cheap labour and child prostitutes.

To help these Cambodian children, you can donate or buy handmade items from The Riverkids Shop which my daughter got her Christmas gifts from.  They are handmade by the people of Cambodia. All of the profits will go to The Riverkids Project.

Seeds of Love Necklace
$12.00 USD
The seeds are from the Angsana tree

Juicebox Jam Wallet
$9.00 USD
Made of recycled juice box

Nicely wrapped in Cambodian traditional fabric and also came with a card

For more information about the project, check out Riverkids Project website.

Life is Sci-Fi

This must be one of the best sci-fi movie of all times. The computer graphics is astounding that it seems so realistic. Good storyline and great casts. If you missed it, get the DVD, is gonna worth your while. James Cameron has done a great job and I hope there will be a sequal.

Avatar is a 2009 American science fiction film written and directed by James Cameron, and starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang. The film is set in the year 2154 on Pandora, a fictional Earth-like moon in a distant planetary system. Humans are engaged in mining Pandora's reserves of a precious mineral, while the Na'vi — the sapient and sentient race of humanoids indigenous to the moon — resist the colonists' expansion, which threatens the continued existence of the Na'vi and the Pandoran ecosystem. The film's title refers to the remotely controlled, genetically engineered human-Na'vi bodies used by the film's human characters to interact with the natives. ~ Wikipedia

Timing ... Mom knows best!

Found this in my mail. Moms, Grandmas and Aunts will appreciate this one....

One day my mother was out and my dad was in charge of me. I was maybe 2 1/2 years old and had just recovered from an accident. Someone had given me a little 'tea set' as a get-well gift and it was one of my favorite toys. Daddy was in the living room engrossed in the evening news when I brought Daddy a little cup of 'tea', which was just water. After several cups of tea and lots of praise for such yummy tea, my Mom came home.

My Dad made her wait in the living room to watch me bring him a cup of tea, because it was 'just the cutest thing!' My Mom waited, and sure enough, here I come down the hall with a cup of tea for Daddy and she watches him drink it up. Then she says, (as only a mother would know... :) 'Did it ever occur to you that the only place she can reach to get water is the toilet?'
